With internet usage and social media now a fact of everyday life, cybersecurity turns into an important challenge — especially while those using the internet are children and young adults. To cope with these concerns and provide college students and dad and mom with some practical advice and online protection hints, the Peninsula School District brought in cybersecurity expert Darren “The White Hatter” Laur. Laur made shows to college students on Monday at Peninsula High School and Harbor Ridge Middle School. On Tuesday at Gig Harbor High and Goodman Middle School, together with a discerning and network presentation each evening.
Laur was invited to the School District two years in the past to talk about cybersecurity with college students, said Kathy Weymiller, director of community outreach, Do Savor. “He’s a dynamic presenter who empowers students and parents to enjoy the advantages of the internet at the same time as also taking precautions to protect private information and mental fitness,” Weymiller said. Laur, along with his wife, Beth, and son Brandon, owns and operates private Protection Systems, Inc., a Canadian enterprise primarily based out of Victoria, B.C., that offers proactive net and social media protection, digital literacy, and place of work violence prevention education.
